The main purpose of office lighting design is to provide adequate lighting to ensure employees' comfort and work efficiency. Therefore, 9 factors should be considered when designing office lighting.
1. Light source selection
We recommend using LED lamps as the main light source for office lighting. LED lamps have the advantages of energy saving, long life, and adjustable color temperature, which are suitable for long-term use. At the same time, LED lamps can provide uniform and soft light to reduce eye fatigue.
2. Illuminance
Illuminance refers to the amount of visible light received per unit area of the illuminated surface.
The unit is lux; 1 lux = 1 lumen/square meter.We often ask whether the work desk is bright enough, which usually refers to whether the illumination is sufficient. Under the same area, the higher the luminous flux of the light source, that is, the higher the lumen value, the higher the illumination.Generally speaking, if the lighting environment is required to be very bright and clear, the illumination requirement is also higher.The general office area's illumination range is usually at least 300 lux, the standard for high-end offices is at least 500 lux, and the local lighting for detailed work illumination is at least 700 lux.
3. Consider the different lighting requirements for different spaces in the office
(1) Front desk
The front desk is an important area for displaying the company's image. The lighting design should not only provide a certain illumination but also pay attention to the diversity of lighting shapes, which is consistent with the corporate image.
(2) Independent office space
Independent office space needs different lighting conditions according to its functions. Basic lighting and Auxiliary lighting are needed to ensure sufficient brightness.
(3) Open office area
The open office area accounts for a large proportion and should not be set up in a location without natural light. LED lamps are usually arranged with uniform spacing and always use LED ceiling lamps, flat panels, or LED linear lights in the workspace to ensure uniform lighting.
(4) Meeting room
The lighting of the meeting room should consider the lighting above the meeting table as the main lighting to focus people's attention, and auxiliary lighting can be added around it.
(5) Leisure area
The leisure area is mainly for comfort. It is recommended that the light should not be too strong to make people relax. Generally, the leisure area can use shaped lights to set off the atmosphere.
(6) Reception area
The first impression of the reception room is very important. The lighting atmosphere is mainly soothing; some places where displayed products need focus lighting to highlight.
(7) Public passages/corridor
The illumination of lamps in the public passage area is generally controlled at 100-200Lux. The choice of lamps is mostly downlights, skyline linear light or the combination of hidden LED strips light can also serve the purpose of guidance.

4. Color temperature and CRI
To create a bright and comfortable working environment, we will use LED lights with a color temperature of 4000K-4500K.
For the Leisure area, using warm light below 3000K can make employees feel a warm and relaxing atmosphere during their break time.In addition, we will also select lamps with a high color reproduction index (CRI>80) to ensure that employees can see the true color and improve work efficiency.
We will use a combination of indirect and direct lighting to ensure that the entire office is evenly illuminated. By arranging the appropriate number and position of lamps, the office will be fully illuminated, and strong light and shadows will be avoided.Basic lighting: Provides uniform lighting without being too bright. (LED ceiling lamps, pendant linear lights, LED downlights)Auxiliary lighting: Enhances light and supplements the deficiencies of basic lighting. (LED downlights, LED strips light)Scenario lighting: Enhances the atmosphere of the space and is suitable for specific scenes. (LED chandeliers, LED floor lamps, LED table lamps, LED wall lamps)Focus lighting: Concentrates light and highlights focus points. (LED spotlights, LED table light)Indirect lighting: Illuminates the space through reflections from walls, ceilings, floors, etc., avoiding direct eye exposure. (LED strips light, LED spotlights, LED skyline linear light)
6. Smart lighting system
We recommend using smart lighting systems that automatically adjust brightness and time through sensors and control systems. When no one is in the office, the lighting system will automatically reduce the brightness or turn off the lamps to save energy.

Control requirements |
Meeting room |
Scene control, remote control, dimming |

Area control, automatic control according to work and off-work hours |
Corridor |
Infrared control turns on the light when there are people, and automatically turns off the light when no one is there. |
Independent office |
Automatic dimming, maintaining constant illumination, remote control |
7. Reduce glare and reflections
We will use anti-glare lamps (UGR< 19)and light diffractors to avoid glare and prevent screen reflections. At the same time, we will also select LED lamps with a grille, and Anti-glare LED lighting to reduce potential problems of glare and reflections.
8. Energy-saving design
In addition to using LED lights and intelligent lighting systems, we will also consider using natural light. Natural light is the best choice for office lighting because it can improve employees' mood and work efficiency while reducing energy consumption. Therefore, when decorating an office, you should use natural light and increase the number and size of daylighting windows to make it easier for natural light to enter the office.
9. Emergency lighting
Emergency lighting and indicator lights can ensure safety at critical moments. In a power outage, the emergency lights will automatically turn on, and the indicator lights will guide everyone to evacuate safely, giving you peace of mind and making your work more secure.
Finally, let's make a small summary. Good office lighting should meet the following points:
1. The light should be healthy and comfortable, just like natural light, bright but not dazzling, gentle but not hot;
2. Appropriate illumination can make employees feel comfortable;
3. The installation position of lamps should be scientific and reasonable to avoid direct or indirect glare that affects people;
4. Understand the lighting needs of different areas and make reasonable combinations;
5. Zone lighting cautiously to ensure a reasonable brightness distribution indoors and allow employees to combine work and rest.
Office lighting provides a comfortable and bright working environment by selecting appropriate light sources, arranging lamps, and controlling lighting brightness. At the same time, we also need to focus on energy saving and environmental protection, using intelligent lighting systems and other energy-saving designs to reduce energy consumption. By comprehensively considering these nine factors, we can improve the office's lighting effects and comfort.
